SoapNet and Stuart Damon

Hello Folks and welcome back. I hope that you all had a good Christmas I know that I did, well on Christmas night after opening presents, eating dinner and having friends and family over; I watched SoapNet's Best of 06 and I didn't like it except for the GH episode in which Luke and Laura got remarried. It was a beautiful episode in which two people who are still in love after all these years and the fact that Laura was catatonic for four years. The only downside to it was the Sam and Jason running from the law and a car explosion. Anyhoo if you don't know by now Stuart Damon, who played Alan Quartermane for twenty-something years was fired and just in time for the holidays. Now that's what I called Classy, the character will be killed off during February sweeps which includes a new storytelling technique for daytime which I know is not smell-o-vision because right now it stinks.

I will have my own list of the Best and Worst of 2006 in January, have a happy and safe New Year.

Bold and the Beautiful

This year the Bold and the Beautiful was its usual self, you know Brooke Screwing Ridge and the rest of the Forrester family and Taylor getting drunk, driving with a suspended license and killing Darla then trying to cover it up. You know the usual, but as usual this show hits you with a curve ball and that curve ball is that Stephanie was physically abused as a child. In a therapy session with Taylor (which by the way would have taken years to uncover something that painful but it is a soap after all) she confronted her issues why she was controlling her children's lives. Stephanie and her husband Eric confronted her mother played by Betty White who is fabulous as the mother who won't face the truth about her husband and the abuse Stephanie endured as a child. What a really like about this is that it is realistic and brings out the best out of the actors. Susan Flannery is spectacular as usual and I liked the fact that there were real emotion and real feelings of hurt and betrayal. I don't know about you but I smell Emmy's all around.

Zarf

Yesterday, my niece was in the kitchen with me when she asked me what first comes to mind when someone says the word Christmas. I said Santa Claus, she promptly said "Santa's not real!!" Oh how we have become a cynical of everything and everyone around us, not that we don't have a reason to, but sometimes I shake my head in sadness because of our cynical way of thinking, we don't see the beauty in things.

Like Zarf, when I heard that AMC were going to introduce the character that was on for about a minute this summer and make him transgendered, the cynical part of me jumped up for good reason. AMC had horrible storylines like Josh the aborted fetus, Greg Madden buried and tortured and Babe cheating for the umpteenth time; I was waiting for this storyline to fall flat on its behind but something happened that I didn't expect: I began to like the character Zarf, he's interesting and unique. Something that is a breath of fresh air for soaps, the actor Jeffrey Carlson has done a good job so far of portraying an international rock star who is androgynous and who is very unique and is not afraid to show it.

So much for cynical nature.
